Practitioner's hands applying a press-needle at the nape of a patient's neck — acupuncture treatment
Treatment One

Acupuncture

Acupuncture uses single-use, hair-thin needles to stimulate specific points on the body. This process triggers the nervous system to release natural pain-relievers and anti-inflammatories, promoting healing from within.

It is highly effective for managing chronic lower back pain, insomnia, tension headaches, and nerve-related discomfort such as sciatica. Each session is tailored to your individual constitution and presenting concern.

Moxibustion treatment — a lit moxa tube on a padded stand warming acupoints near a patient's navel, smoke drifting softly upward
Treatment Two

Moxibustion

A soothing therapy that involves warming acupuncture points using the herb Mugwort. The gentle heat helps to "warm the meridians" and dispel cold or dampness from the body's energy pathways.

Moxibustion is particularly valuable for boosting the immune system, supporting digestive health, and relieving chronic, cold-sensitive joint pain. It is also a cornerstone of our Seasonal Moxibustion service (San Fu and San Jiu cycles).

Fire cupping treatment — glass cups placed along a patient's neck and shoulder, drawing blood flow and releasing deep muscle tension
Treatment Three

Cupping

Specialised glass or plastic suction cups are applied to the skin to create a gentle vacuum. This draws blood flow to the surface, stretching the fascia and releasing deep-seated muscle tension that manual pressure alone cannot reach.

Cupping is highly effective for back, neck, and shoulder pain. The characteristic marks fade within days and are a normal response to increased circulation.

Tuina therapeutic massage — practitioner's hands applying rhythmic pressure across a patient's shoulder along the meridians
Treatment Four

Tuina

A focused therapeutic treatment using rhythmic pressing and stretching techniques along the body's meridians. It effectively releases muscle knots and improves joint mobility — going beyond relaxation massage to address the structural and energetic roots of discomfort.

Tuina is especially beneficial for frozen shoulder, cervical stiffness, and relieving lower back stiffness. Sessions target the specific meridians relevant to your presenting concern.

Treatment Five

Gua Sha

Smooth-edged tools gently stroke the skin, stimulating microcirculation and encouraging lymphatic drainage. The technique releases metabolic waste held in the fascia, bringing fresh blood and nutrients to the area.

Gua Sha is particularly effective for neck tension, upper back tightness, and jaw (TMJ) discomfort. Like cupping, the petechiae (redness) that may appear are a normal response and resolve within a few days.

Chinese Herbal Medicine

Traditional Chinese herbal formulas draw on thousands of years of clinical refinement. Ken selects and compounds formulas — available as convenient capsules — based on each patient's individual constitution and health pattern, working in concert with acupuncture to support the body's own healing processes.

Initial and subsequent Chinese herbal medicine consultations are available in-clinic. Ken's training at Endeavour College of Natural Health encompasses the full breadth of the Chinese materia medica.
