Seasonal Moxibustion
San Fu (Summer) and San Jiu (Winter) — medicated herbal plasters applied at acupoints during the turning of the seasons to strengthen immunity and warm the meridians.
Harnessing the seasonal cycle to strengthen the body from within.
Seasonal Moxibustion is a classical TCM preventive medicine practice that works with — rather than against — the body's natural resonance with the seasons. By applying medicated herbal plasters (smokeless) to specific acupoints at precisely timed seasonal windows, the treatment penetrates deeply to warm the meridians, dispel accumulated cold and dampness, and fortify the body's defensive Qi (Wei Qi).
The plasters contain a carefully composed herbal formula. They are applied to acupoints on the back — particularly on the Du Mai (Governing Vessel) and Bladder meridian — and held in place for a specific duration. The process is gentle, non-invasive, and also available as a home visit.
San Fu & San Jiu.
San Fu — Summer Support
Applied during the three hottest days of summer (the San Fu period). This is the optimal time to build Yang Qi — the body's warming, energising force. Yang energy is naturally at its peak, and treatment applied in this window reaches deeper into the body than at any other time, reinforcing the Yang that will sustain immunity through the cold months ahead.
Particularly recommended for patients who suffer in winter: those with cold-sensitive joint pain, frequent respiratory infections, or chronic fatigue that worsens in cold weather.
San Jiu — Winter Support
Applied during the three coldest days of winter (the San Jiu period). This is the time when Yin energy peaks and the body's surface closes to preserve warmth. Moxibustion at these acupoints dispels cold and dampness that has accumulated in the meridians, strengthening the Kidney Yang that anchors the body's energy reserves.
Particularly recommended for patients with digestive weakness, low immunity, or patterns of cold retention — especially those whose symptoms worsen dramatically in winter.

Medicated Herbal Plasters
Smokeless plasters prepared from a classical herbal formula are applied to acupoints on the upper and lower back. There is no open flame — the warming action comes entirely from the herbs themselves.
Applied at Acupoints
Ken selects the specific acupoints according to your individual pattern and the seasonal protocol. Common points include those on the Governing Vessel and Bladder meridian that influence lung, kidney, and spleen function.
Available as a Home Visit
Seasonal Moxibustion is available as a home visit within 10 km of Box Hill — particularly convenient during winter when leaving the house may be difficult for the patients who benefit most from this treatment.
Timing is key with seasonal moxibustion — the treatment must fall within the San Fu or San Jiu window to be fully effective. Contact Ken in advance to plan the right dates for your treatment cycle. Call 0433 186 148 or email oneacupuncture@hotmail.com.
